Jackery Explorer Won't Turn On? Fix It in 5 Steps (All Models)
Jackery Explorer won't turn on? 5-step recovery for all models. BMS lockout fix, display failure test, and when to contact support.
A Jackery Explorer that won’t turn on is almost always one of three things: BMS lockout from low storage, a display failure (not a power failure), or a firmware glitch. In most cases you can bring it back without contacting support.
This guide covers every current and legacy Explorer model. If you need broader help, see our Jackery troubleshooting hub.
Want to calculate this for your exact setup? Use our Solar charging time calculator — it accounts for real-world losses.
Before you start: which model do you have?
The recovery steps below work for all Explorer models, but the details differ slightly:
| Model | Chemistry | Most common “won’t turn on” cause |
|---|---|---|
| Explorer 300 Plus | LiFePO4 | Deep discharge during storage |
| Explorer 1000 v2 | LiFePO4 | Firmware display glitch |
| Explorer 1000 Plus | LiFePO4 | Expansion battery connector issue |
| Explorer 2000 Plus | LiFePO4 | Solar over-voltage protection latch |
| Explorer 3000 Pro | LiFePO4 | LCD menu freeze |
| Explorer 500 (legacy) | NMC | BMS calibration drift + cell aging |
| Explorer 1000 (legacy) | NMC | BMS failure (check recall status) |
Step-by-step recovery
Jackery Explorer won't turn on — 5-step recovery
-
Plug into AC wall charger and wait 2-4 hours
Do not try to force-power the unit. A BMS in lockout mode needs a slow, sustained AC input before it responds. Leave the charger connected for at least 2 hours, preferably 4. If the unit was stored below 10% SOC for weeks or months, the BMS may need even longer — up to 6 hours in extreme cases.
-
Try the DC car charger input
If AC charging shows no response, switch to the DC car charger (12V cigarette lighter socket). Sometimes one charging path can wake the BMS when another cannot. This is especially true for the Explorer 1000 v2 and 3000 Pro, which have separate MPPT controllers for AC and DC input.
-
Long-press the power button (10 seconds)
After the unit has been on AC charge for at least 30 minutes, press and hold the main power button for a full 10 seconds. Some Explorer models respond to a long-press reset once the BMS has received enough trickle charge to come out of lockout.
-
Test the AC output directly
If the LCD screen still shows nothing, the problem may be a display failure rather than a battery failure. Plug in a known-working load (a phone charger or LED light) to the AC output and press the AC output button. If the load works but the screen is blank, the battery and inverter are fine — it is a display issue.
-
Run a full charge-discharge cycle
Once the unit powers on, let it discharge to 0% (run until it shuts down automatically), then charge uninterrupted to 100% on AC power. This recalibrates the BMS SOC reading and clears most firmware-related display glitches. For legacy NMC models (Explorer 500, 1000), repeat this every 3-6 months.
Model-specific notes
Explorer 1000 Plus / 2000 Plus: expansion battery issues
If your main unit won’t turn on after connecting an expansion battery:
- Power off both the main unit and expansion battery before connecting.
- Check that the connectors are fully seated — Jackery’s expansion port requires firm, even pressure on both sides.
- Disconnect the expansion battery, then try powering on the main unit alone.
- If the main unit works alone but not with the expansion battery, the issue is the connection, not the battery.
Explorer 3000 Pro: LCD menu freeze
The 3000 Pro has a more complex LCD menu system than other models. Occasionally the menu firmware freezes, making the screen appear dead.
- Unplug all inputs and outputs.
- Hold the main power button for 15 seconds.
- Plug in AC charger and wait 1 hour.
- The screen should come back. If not, check Jackery’s support page for a firmware update.
Legacy Explorer 1000: recall check
Critical: If you have an original Explorer 1000 (NMC, model E1000) sold between January 2020 and October 2021, it may be part of Jackery’s BMS fire risk recall. Before attempting any recovery:
- Check your serial number at jackery.com/support
- If covered, contact Jackery support for a free replacement
- Do not continue using a recalled unit that has not been replaced
When to contact Jackery support
If none of the steps above work after 6 hours of AC charging, contact Jackery support:
- Warranty: 3 years standard, 5 years if you registered within 1 month of purchase
- What to have ready: serial number, proof of purchase, description of steps you’ve already tried
- Tip: Document the issue with a photo or video before calling — support often asks for this
For warranty details by model, see the warranty section in our Jackery troubleshooting hub.
How to prevent this from happening again
- Store at 50-80% SOC, never at 0%. LFP cells are more tolerant but the BMS still needs minimum voltage to stay active.
- Check stored units every 2-3 months. If SOC has dropped below 30%, top up to 60%.
- Keep firmware updated. Jackery occasionally releases firmware that improves BMS behavior — check the app or support page quarterly.
- Store in a cool, dry place. Heat accelerates self-discharge and is especially harmful to NMC cells in legacy models.
