Error 022 on the EcoFlow Delta 2 means the inverter detected an AC output overcurrent and shut down to protect itself. The good news: this is almost never a hardware failure. The bad news: if you don’t address the underlying cause, the error will return the moment you reset.

TL;DR: What error 022 actually means

The Delta 2’s inverter uses internal current monitoring on its AC output. If output current spikes above the safe threshold for a brief moment, error 022 triggers and the AC outlets shut off. The three things that cause this are:

  1. Inductive load surge (compressor / motor / pump startup) — 60% of cases

Cause 1: Inductive load surge

Motors, compressors, and pumps draw 3-7x their rated wattage during the first 100-300 milliseconds of startup.     Plug devices in one at a time, waiting 10 seconds between each, so each motor surge completes before the next begins.

If a single device repeatedly triggers error 022 on its own (no other loads), it exceeds the Delta 2’s surge rating. Move it to a Delta Pro or larger unit.

Cause 2: Short circuit downstream

If a device’s internal wiring shorted, or an extension cord got pinched, the Delta 2 sees the short as infinite current and trips immediately. Symptoms:

Cause 3: X-Boost mode mismatch

X-Boost is EcoFlow’s clever trick to run devices that nominally need more than 1800W — by reducing output voltage from 120V to ~95V, the Delta 2 can supply higher-wattage resistive heaters and tools.

The catch: X-Boost is fine for heaters and power tools (which don’t care about exact voltage) but incompatible with anything requiring proper 120V: refrigerators, computers, medical devices, anything with a switching power supply.

If you have X-Boost enabled and connect an incompatible device, the device’s internal regulator panics, draws excess current trying to compensate, and trips error 022.

Fix: turn X-Boost off in the EcoFlow app and either accept the 1800W ceiling or upgrade to a Delta Pro / Delta 2 Max with native higher output.
